How-to steps · Chapter 10, C for Credibility
Check every listing of your business
You are here for this line in chapter 10 of the book:
☐ Search your exact phone number in quotes in Google, then business name plus suburb; flag directory listings with variations in your name, address or phone.
Chapter 10, C for Credibility
- Search Google for your exact phone number in quotes, then for your business name plus your suburb. Every directory listing that comes back is a citation.
- Open each one and compare the name, address and phone with your website and Google Business Profile. Note every variation: an old address, a former name, a disconnected number.
- Fix each at the source: claim the listing, or use the directory's suggest an edit option.
Listings worth checking in Australia:
- Google Business Profile
- Apple Business (business.apple.com), which replaced Apple Business Connect in April 2026, for Apple Maps and Siri
- Bing Places for Business (bing.com/forbusiness), which also feeds Copilot
- Yellow Pages (yellowpages.com.au) and True Local, both run by Thryv Australia
- Hotfrog
- Yelp
- Your industry's own directory and any association you belong to
BrightLocal's Citation Tracker automates this and covers Australia (paid, with a free trial). Moz Local's checker does not cover Australian listings. The companion site's Offsite Readiness skill also checks name, address and phone across these listings for you.
You're done when you have every listing with an old name, address or phone found and fixed at the source.
